There are many lists of architectural world wonders.
These wonders challenged their designers and builders and are a legacy of the ingenuity and resourcefulness of humans.
Most lists include the following wonders:

Channel Tunnel—a tunnel under the English Channel between England and France.

CN Tower (Toronto, Canada)—a structure that combines a transmission tower with an observation deck.

Empire State Building (New York, USA)—the tallest building in the world from 1931 to 1972.

Panama Canal—a canal that crosses the Isthmus of Panama between the North and South American continents.

Itaipu Dam—a hydroelectric power plant between Brazil and Paraguay in South America.

The North Sea Protection Works—a complex dam system protecting the Netherlands from the North Sea.

Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco, USA)—a suspension bridge built during the Great Depression.

The Channel Tunnel, which connects England and France under the English Channel, is one of the longest tunnels in the world.

The tunnel is known to many as the ‘Chunnel’. It was built simultaneously from both ends. Laser surveying techniques and custom-designed machinery made sure the two ends met in the middle.

The tunnel reaches an average depth of 40 metres under the seabed. Construction of the tunnel required between 13,000 and 15,000 workers and took almost a decade to complete, before it was opened in 1994.

There are three tunnels—one for travel in each direction and one smaller service tunnel. Passengers, cars, buses, trucks and containers are transported through the tunnel on specialised trains. The passenger trains reach speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour.
